More than 200 employees – most of them from the economic, social and engineering sciences and IT technology – work together on an interdisciplinary basis at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO. The institute addresses planning, design and application of innovative technologies and forms of organisation. The integral view of humans, technology and organisation ensures that individual and social aspects of human workers are also taken into account.
The Fraunhofer IAO is one of the leading international institutes in the field of services research. For more than 20 years it has addressed the systematic development and design of new services and founded the scientific discipline of service engineering in the mid-Nineties. Another milestone was the establishment of the ServLab, the world’s first laboratory for the support of service engineering with new concepts such as virtual reality and service theater. Moreover, the institute has developed a broad spectrum of R&D services in the domain of e-mobility in the past few years and operates its own pool of electric vehicles. The competencies of the institute are intended to be used predominantly for the development and implementation of new e-mobility services within the scope of the project.
